The installation process is logical and simple. It requires no special equipment or tools, and only two installers. Screws and other fixings are supplied with the stairs, and skilled workmen can install 1m2™ stairs very quickly.

The floor-to-ceiling height is measured to confirm that it’s the same height as the stairs. Three mounting holes are marked in the ceiling casing, matching the positions of the holes in the flange at the back of the top step.

The first mounting hole (the hole nearest the angle of the walls) is drilled using a receiver bolt. The open spiral design stairs are moved into position, and a washer and bolt cap is fitted to the first receiver bolt. Horizontal alignment of the top step with the attic floor (or basement ceiling) is checked with a spirit-level, and the other two mounting holes are secured with receiver bolts, washers, and bolt caps.

The handrail is then locked to the central column with bolts, and the upward projecting ‘head’ of the handrail is screwed securely into the top of the stair column. After checking that the mid-point stair tread is horizontally level, holes are drilled into the floor to match the position of the holes in the circular baseplate of the stairs. Receiver bolts are fitted and the baseplate is then securely screwed down using washers and bolt caps.

Finally, anti-slip rubber plugs are pushed into pre-drilled holes along the front edges of the treads. The unique 1m2™ space saver stairs are now ready to use – and enjoy!
